Power is out to more than 7,000 customers after an underground cable failed, according to PG&E. The outage occurred at 4:19 p.m. and knocked out power to the downtown area.

Power is expected to be fully restored by midnight, said Jana Morris, PG&E spokeswoman.

The cause of the outage is unknown, but PG&E will conduct a “thorough investigation,”she said.

Some of the streets experiencing outages include the east side of Monterey Road between Main and San Pedro avenues, Bel Air Way, East Dunne Avenue, Church Street, Depot Street and Foothill Avenue.

Crews are at West Dunne Avenue near Del Monte Avenue, working to restore power to the 7,023 customers.
