National B 15, American B 12
The MH National B team prevailed over the MH American B in the first round of the MHPB Mustang Memorial Day Tournament. Leading the way offensively for the National B’s was Kyle Dunne, going 4-for-4 with two singles, a double and a triple, four runs scored and two RBIs. Mike Gallucci went 3-for-4, ripping a double, a triple and a single. He had two runs scored and two RBIs.
Carlos Naranjo went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double, two runs scored and one RBI. Ricky Clift hit 2-for-3 with two singles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Andy Muller lined a double and single, and scored two runs. Kolby Nelson went 2-for-2 with a double and single, including two RBIs and one run scored. Christian Turnlund hit a single, driving in one run. Matt Zarubi also hit a single. Rhett Ramirez walked, scored one run and had one RBI. Tyler Schmidlin walked and scored one run. And Ryan Chipman drove in a run.
Defensively for the National B team, leftfielder Patrick Tuttle made an acrobatic diving circus catch to steal a base hit away from the American B team, leaving the bases loaded and helping the National B squad to hold the lead. Starting pitcher Tyler Schmidlin got the win, and closer Andy Muller preserved the win by pitching the National B team out of a jam in the fifth and sixth innings.
Leading the way with the bat for the American B team was Leland McDonald, who went 4-for-4 with four singles and two runs scored. Connor Boulger hit a double and single, with one run scored and one RBI. Philip Ambler, Jacob Conlon and Ben Vater each hit a single. Michael Grimmer went 3-for-4 with three singles and two runs scored. Billy Berry singled and scored a run. Chase Chadbend walked twice and scored twice. And Jimmy Persons drove a bases-loaded three-RBI triple to spark a comeback attempt by the American B team.
National B 17, Los Altos 9
The leading hitters for the National B team were Ricky Clift, who lined an RBI double and stroked a grand slam for four more RBIs. Kyle Dunne hit a single and triple with one RBI and one run scored. Ryan Chipman went 3-for-4 with three singles and scored three runs.
Matt Zarubi hit two singles and scored twice. Patrick Tuttle was 2-for-2 with two singles, one RBI and one run scored. Christian Turnlund batted 3-for-3 with three singles, four RBIs and two runs scored. Carlos Naranjo lined an RBI double and scored once. Andy Muller singled and scored one run. And Tyler Schmidlin was walked and hit by a pitch and scored two runs.
Starting Pitcher Kolby Nelson pitched two hitless, scoreless innings to give National B an early lead. Mike Gallucci and Ryan Chipman pitched two tough middle innings. And Matt Zarubi pitched the fifth and sixth innings to preserve the win.
American A 21, National B 5
Leading the way for the hot hitting American A team was Nick Pusateri, who singled and doubled and scored three runs. Kai Von Alvensleben hit two singles with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ryan Webb was 3-for-4 with three singles, one RBI and three runs scored. Marc Rauschnot ripped a single and a double driving in one run and scored three times.
Dominic Bejarano singled twice driving in two RBIs and score twice. Ryan Hennings ripped three singles and scored one run. Chris Nielson hit three singles and scored twice. Julio Aguayo singled and scored once. And Tyler Kiefer singled twice and scored once.
The leading hitters for the National B team were Matt Zarubi. who hit two singles. Ricky Clift singled and scored one run. Kyle Dunne Singled drove in a run and scored once. Carlos Naranjo singled and scored one run. Rhett Ramirez and Andy Muller also each hit a single. Patrick Tuttle was hit by a pitch and scored a run. And Tyler Schmidlin walked and scored once.
American A 26, National B 8
In the Championship game of the MHPB Mustang Memorial Day Tournament, the American A team defeated the National B team 26-8 to claim the tournament championship. The game was closely contested until the American A team pulled away, scoring 20 runs in the last two innings.
Leading the hot bats for American A was Nick Pusateri who singled twice, doubled and scored two runs. Ryan Webb walked and scored once. Ben Newton singled, walked twice, and scored three runs. Tyler Kiefer singled twice, doubled twice, drove in two RBIs and scored three runs. Marc Rauschnot singled three times and scored twice.
Dominic Bejarano hit two singles, drove in two RBIs and scored three runs. Julio Aguayo hit a single and double and scored four runs. Ryan Hennings hit two singles and scored twice. Brent Newton ripped two singles and one double and scored three times. Michael Garrett singled twice and scored twice. And Chris Nielson walked and scored once.
The National B team’s hitting was led by Kyle Dunne who singled twice and scored two runs. Ryan Chipman hit a double and single with one RBI and scored twice. Matt Zarubi and Ricky Clift each singled. Tyler Schmidlin singled, walked and scored one run. Christian Turnlund hit an RBI double and scored once. And Rhett Ramirez hit a bases-loaded two-RBI double to spark a last effort comeback attempt.
Yankees 3, Rangers 2
Yankee pitchers Tommy Nourie, Tyler Kiefer and Nicholas Pusateri combined for 16 strikeouts and one walk. First baseman Tyler Martz scored two of the Yankee three runs, and Vince Barajas scored the third run. Ranger pitchers Billy Berry and Connor Boulger combined for seven Yankee strikeouts and four walks. Berry and Boulger also scored both of the Ranger runs. Making great defensive plays were Steven Villarreal at first, Julio Aguayo at third and Edgardo Sanchez in center field.
Pony Division
Diamondbacks 4, Twins 3
In a game that highlighted by good pitching and defense the Diamondbacks edged the Twins 4-3. The Diamondbacks started fast scoring two runs in the top of the first. Joey Stryker led off with a single then stole second and scored on a John Stemel single. Stemel scored on a single by Mike Giancola.
The Twins got one run back in the bottom of the first. Isaiah Martinez walked and later scored on a single by Steven Davis. in the third inning, Joey Stryker led off and was hit by a pitch. He moved to second on a ground out and scored on another RBI single by Mike Giancola.
Jesse Ramirez a great catch in center field and threw to first baseman Joey Woodworth to complete the double play. In the fifth, Stryer scored his third run when he walked, stole second and went to third when the throw to second went in the outfield. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by John Stemel that was caught by Alonso Torres, who made two nice running catches in the inning.
The Twins got their second run in the sixth inning when Joey Del Razo scored after stealing third. He came home when the throw went into the outfield. After pitcher Vince Hatakeyama set down the Diamondbacks in the top of the seventh with the help of two nice plays by Danny Adamo at second base.
The Twins tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Joey Woodworth led off with a single and moved to third on a fly out by Josh Doubek. Steven Davis then drove him home with his second RBI of the game.
But with the tying run on, Stemel came in to relieve Giancota, who pitched five strong innings. Stemel stuck out the last to Twins to save the game.
