Mustang Division

Twins 10, Mets 6

The Twins and the Mets played a strong first game of the season Sunday. Victor Almeida and starting pitcher Matt Zarubi both had a strong day at the plate for the Mets hitting triples. Patrick Tuttle came in to help the Mets on the mound. Nick Price had a solid inning for the Twins, pitching the first three innings. Leland McDonald helped defensively catching and offensively with hits and steals. Kai Von Alvensleben got the win.

Bronco Division

Padres 7, Rangers 8

The game began with a three-run rally by the Padres in the first inning with a double by Deric Horan followed by a single by Matthew Nilmeyer.

The Rangers started the bottom of the first with a triple by Dylan Frechette followed by a series of singles from Michael O’Connell, Travis Thompson and Jonathan Wylie. At the end of the first, the Rangers led 5-3.

The Padres’ Nicholas Hagaperos hit a single in the seventh to tie the game. At the bottom of the seventh, the Padres led 7-6. Rangers’ Tom Standridge had a strong defensive game with two big catches in center field to deny the Padres scoring at critical points in the game.

In the bottom of the seventh with two outs, O’Connell stepped up to the plate to hit a critical single. Thompson followed with his second triple of the game sending O’Connell home for the tie run. Then, Thompson stole home for the winning run.

Pony Division

Angels 11, Cardinals 10

In what turned out to be a very entertaining contest, the Angels jumped on top of the Cardinals 7-0 after two innings. After several walks, the key hits were a double by James Johnson and a two-RBI single by Travis Avilla.

The Cardinals cut the lead to 7-5 in the third, as Matt Cummins and Eddie Gomez had key hits in the rally. Gomez went 4-for-4, and Adam Perez had two hits to lead the Cardinals.

Starting pitcher Anthony Guidry went three innings for the Angels, allowing one earned run and striking out four.

Jonathan Hughes pitched well for the Angels (five strikeouts) and scored four runs. Danny Nelson went 2-for-3 for the Angels, and Kevin Grove and Billy Hill each had hits and scored twice.

Grove and Johnson combined to run down two runners trying to score from third in pickle plays. With the score 11-10 in the top of the seventh, Angels’ closer James Johnson retired the side in order, striking out two.

Diamondbacks 15, Braves 4

For the Diamondbacks, Mike Giancola had a triple and singles, Eric Martin had a double and a single and Robert Valenti had a pair of singles.

John Stemel, Chris Carin, Myloe Esquival added hits. David Jensen and Justin Villa each had three walks. Villa had two great outfield grabs.

Martin faced 17 batters in five innings for the Diamondbacks. He didn’t give up any hits.

Martin had eight strikeouts and three walks. Stemel pitched two innings and gave up the only hit of the game to Robert Barsanti.

Robert Valenti pitched two thirds of an inning in relief.

Blaine Sutton and Chris Wong pitched well for the Braves. Chris Wong flashed a strong glove at shortstop for the Braves.
