Police are investigting a shooting incident late Sunday night that appears to be the result of an argument between several groups of people.
The 11:30 p.m. event occurred in a residential area on Spring Avenue near Barnell Avenue, according to police.
There were no injuries.
“We have no evidence at this time that this was in any way related to a gang or gangs,” Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Troy Hoefling said Monday. “And we have nothing to substantiate the claim that this was attempted murder.”
A press release issued Monday morning characterized the incident as an attempted murder.
According to police, officers were dispatched to a reported physical fight. Upon arrival at 16710 Barnell Ave., one officer heard shots being fired.
The initial investigation led police to believe that two groups of suspects were involved in a physical fight, for unknown reasons, and during the fight a third group became involved and allegedly fired handguns at an occupied vehicle.
“We have impounded a vehicle that has a bullet hole in it,” Hoefling said. “However, the people involved in the initial confrontation were uncooperative.”
