A marijuana eradication team destroyed approximately 6,000 marijuana plants in three separate Santa Clara County locations on Monday and Tuesday.
The street value of the marijuana was estimated to be between $5 million and $6 million, according to Deputy Terrence Helm, public information officer for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department.
The origin of the farms is under investigation and two arrests are pending.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Marijuana Detection and Destruction Team conducted surveillance at Bald Mountain and the area bordered by Summit Road, Highway 9 and Highway 17 to identify the farms Sunday.
“Every mission that our guys go on, whether it’s one plant or 1 million plants, it was successful,” Helm said. “Any time they prevent one plant from hitting the streets it’s a success.”
The team was able to identify and destroy the plants over just a few days because it works full-time, Helm said.
“With that luxury we don’t have to sit there, formulate a plan, get a team together,” he said. “They’re ready at a moment’s notice.”
The team is funded by federal grants, Helm said.
