Accidents
• A 33-year-old Morgan Hill man was charged with driving under the influence in three-car accident Monday night that sent five people, two of them 12-year-old girls, to the hospital. Rafael M. Jimenez was taken to county jail following the 9:28pm accident. He was not injured in the accident. According to CHP officers, Jimenez was driving a Jeep westbound on Highway 152 west of Lover’s Lane in Hollister at approximately 55 mph when he crossed the center lines and sideswiped a Ford driven by Preorag Petrovic, 32, of San Francisco. The Ford was traveling eastbound at approximately 35-40 mph before the collision. Jimenez continued to drive the wrong way on the highway, colliding head-on with a Nissan driven by Sabian Gonzalez, 27, of San Jose. The two 12-year-old girls were passengers in the Nissan. The Jeep flipped after the collision, landing on its roof. Petrovic, his passenger and Gonzales and his passengers were taken to Saint Louise Medical Center with minor injuries, including cuts and bruises and complaints of pain in the head, shoulders and chest. Gonzalez was treated for a broken toe. “It was a really big crash,” said CHP Officer Matt Ramirez. “It’s a wonder nobody got killed.” Jimenez’s blood alcohol level was not available, but he was arrested on suspicion of being over the legal limit of .08 percent. He also was arrested for driving with a suspended license, and without proof of insurance. The eastbound lane of Highway 152 was closed for about one hour after the crash, and traffic in both directions was diverted to the shoulders of the highway.
• An early-morning accident Thursday at Highway 101 and San Martin Avenue sent a 5-year-old to the hospital with injuries. Sharon Scott, 50, of San Martin, was driving a Cadillac at approximately 4:01am with her granddaughter as a passenger and was attempting to enter the hig way on the on-ramp at San Martin Avenue. According to CHP, she failed to negotiate the curve of the ramp. The Cadillac crossed all three northbound lanes and collided with the steel guardrail center divider. Alcohol or drugs were not involved, according to the report. Scott’s granddaughter was not restrained in the vehicle and suffered facial lacerations, bruised eyes and injuries to her mouth and nose. She was taken to Santa Teresa Hospital.
