Dear Red Phone, my neighbor’s dogs are driving me insane and
it’s not getting any better. Is there a way to obtain documents
about the consequences of an excessive barking dog or any documents
the city may have so I can show it to my neighbors so maybe they’ll
start paying more attention to their pets?

Red Phone: Dear Fed Up With the Barking, yes there is way to obtain those documents.
Go to www.morgan-hill.ca.gov. then to “About Us” and click on Municipal Code. There you’ll find all the information you need to arm yourself.
According to section 6.24.020, public nuisances:
A. No person owning or having control of any animal shall permit such animal to do any of the following:
We’ll skip the first four and get to the pertinent information:
- Keep, maintain, cause or permit to be kept or maintained any dog, cat or other animal or fowl, whether licensed or not, which by habitual howling, yelping, barking or other noise, disturbs or annoys a number of persons in any neighborhood, and each day that such disturbance is permitted to continue shall constitute a separate offense.
Any animal control officer, or peace officer, may seize and impound an animal causing a public nuisance.
There you have it, good caller. Print out the appropriate code and show it to your neighbors, or just show them this column.
East Dunne will be repainted
“Red Phone, why was East Dunne Avenue by Nordstrom School painted just weeks before construction on the road? It seems like a waste of money and time. Will the road be repainted?”
Red Phone: Dear Waste of Time and Money, Red Phone contacted Mario Jimenez, a junior engineer with the city, who said the repainting was done as part of the Safe Routes to Schools project.
“This project involved installation of high visibility crosswalks at six elementary schools,” he said. “The city decided it was important to have these crosswalks completed prior to the start of school. In anticipation of the construction project now underway, the city postponed the proposed crosswalks perpendicular to East Dunne, as they would most likely be damaged from the construction.”
The contractor will install the missing crosswalks and/or replace any that are damaged, Jimenez added.
Good caller, hope that answers your question.
