Attacks alleged at Tea Party protest

A “Tea Party” activist at the corner of Monterey Road and Third Street called police Saturday morning to report a motorist “gunned toward her” when she tried to cross Monterey on foot about 11 a.m., police said.

The activist said the driver of the black or dark green four-door sedan was a Hispanic female, about 35 years old and wearing sunglasses. She said the car first stepped on the brakes to slow down while the activist was in the crosswalk, then sped up to try to hit her.

The caller also said the driver of the car had been in a verbal altercation with another “Tea Party” protester just moments prior to the alleged attempt to run her over.

About the same time, police received a call from a female motorist who reported a “disturbing incident” at the intersection where the conservative activists demonstrate most Saturday mornings. The woman said several “aggressive” demonstrators approached her vehicle and placed signs on her car, which she identified as a black four-door Chevrolet.

She added a female activist took pictures of her car.

No arrests were made in relation to the incident.
