  • East Dunne Avenue, 7:42 a.m. A building under construction was broken into overnight.

n Altimira Circle, 8:40 a.m. Several homes under construction were broken into overnight, and copper piping was stolen.

  • La Crosse Village Apartments, Village Lane. A resident reported someone attempted to enter her apartment through a front bedroom window.

Theft

  • Nob Hill Foods, Vineyard Town Center, 7:33 p.m. A store manager reported a customer witnessed a couple of juveniles stealing a motorized cart.

Auto burglary

  • 7-Eleven, West Main Avenue, 2:04 a.m. A laptop was stolen from an unlocked Hyundai that was parked at the store.

  • P.A. Walsh Elementary, West Main Avenue, 1:50 a.m. A resident received facial injuries during an assault in front of the school between 9-9:30 p.m.

Sheriff’s arrests:

Controlled substance possession

  • Juan Manuel Castro Salcedo, 45, of the 200 block of Farrell Avenue, 1:15 p.m. Friday, near the intersection of Monterey and Las Animas roads for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Salcedo drew the attention of deputies when he crossed four lanes of traffic on his bicycle without signaling and without checking for oncoming vehicles.

Concentrated cannabis possession

  • Joseph Dillon Fritz, 23, of Acacia Way in Morgan Hill, 10:57 p.m. Oct. 16, near the intersection of Murphy and Tennant avenues for possession of concentrated cannabis and less than one ounce of marijuana. Deputies saw Fritz riding a bicycle at night without a light and ran a warrant check, which revealed that he had an outstanding warrant for driving a vehicle under the influence. When arrested, the search turned up 0.6 grams of concentrated cannabis and 0.8 grams of marijuana.

Driving under the influence

  • Ernest Robert Almaraz, 42, of the 7100 block of Church Street, 2:35 p.m. Sunday, near the intersection of Wren and Farrell avenues for alleged driving under the influence.

  • Alejandro Garcia Camarena, 38, of the 7300 block of Dowdy Street, 1:30 a.m. Oct. 18, near the intersection of Monterey Road and Masten Avenue in San Martin for alleged driving under the influence.

Other sheriff’s incidents:

Recovered stolen vehicle

  • A black 1999 Ford Windstar van was found near the intersection of Shadowlane Court and Easy Street in Morgan Hill using a computerized vehicle recovery system, 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Shooting at inhabited dwelling

  • An unknown person fired three bullets into a home on Pacheco Pass Highway, hitting but not killing the resident’s dog, 12:25 a.m. Sunday.

Injury

  • A man was thrown from his horse into a wooden fence post while he was riding northbound on Llagas Avenue in San Martin, 12:06 p.m. Saturday. The man went unconscious and was taken by helicopter to a hospital.

Petty theft

  • An unknown suspect tried to cash a stolen check at a check-cashing store in Salinas, Oct. 16. The checks were taken from the mailbox of an employee at KS Collision Center with a residence on Roop Road, between 12 and 6 p.m. the day before.
