Two Morgan Hill men were arrested after a short car chase that ended near Main and Hale avenues just north downtown.
After receiving information from Chico police that 21-year-old Eric Abril might be in Morgan Hill in a 1999 gold Ford Windstar stolen out of Chico, an officer on patrol Sunday morning spotted what he thought was the van, according to Sgt. Jerry Neumayer.
Unable to read the license plate, the officer attempted to get closer, and as he did the driver of the van ran a red light near Cochrane Road and Sutter Boulevard and headed toward Monterey Road, Neumayer said. The officer began the chase. From there the driver turned south on Monterey Road, then toward downtown where turned onto Second Street, before heading back to Main Avenue. The van was eventually cornered in a small shopping center at Main and Hale avenues about 9:15 a.m. Sunday.
However, Abril wasn’t driving. Instead, police arrested 21-year-old Morgan Hill resident Michael Dollarhide on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police and resisting arrest. His passenger was not arrested.
About an hour later, police got information that Abril was at a residence near San Bruno Avenue in northwest Morgan Hill, Neumayer said. Upon arrival, Abril fled out a back door, but was quickly apprehended about 10:30 a.m. on suspicion of an outstanding warrant.
