Morgan Hill – A Bakersfield man was arrested Thursday night on a laundry list of felony and misdemeanor charges after he was stopped for a faulty headlight, according to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing.
Marco Martinez, 26, was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and alleged possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine for sales, transportation of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, giving false information to a peace officer, improper identification and identity theft.
Swing said Morgan Hill police officer Mike Nelsen stopped Martinez’s car at approximately 11:09pm as it was northbound on Monterey Road at Wright Avenue. When Nelsen did a records check on the name Martinez told him, it was associated with someone who did not match his description. Nelsen asked him to step out of the vehicle, and when Martinez complied, Nelsen noticed a crack pipe on the floor, Swing said.
Officers found 28 grams of cocaine and just over a gram of methamphetamine, Swing said. The cocaine has a street value of approximately $2,200, and the meth is valued at approximately $320.
Martinez also allegedly had checks belonging to several people in Gilroy and San Jose, Swing added. The checks are believed to be associated with auto burglaries.
“Here’s a guy that gets stopped for a mechanical violation by one of our officers, and from that, it results in four felonies and five misdemeanors,” he said. “This is also a good example of how many crimes are related back to meth and controlled substances.”
