Qualifying products include air conditioners, dishwashers, pool
pumps, dual-paned windows
PG&E has reopened its residential rebate program, offering rebates for customers who purchase energy efficient products. There are more than 30 qualifying products including air conditioners, dishwashers, clothes washer, pool pumps and high performance dual-paned windows.
“If it has the energy star label, in all likelihood, you’re headed in the right direction,” said PG&E spokesperson Jeff Smith.
There are $6.5 million in rebates available for qualifying products through Dec. 31 or until the funds are depleted. Customers who purchased and installed qualifying products from Jan.1, through Dec. 31, 2004 are eligible to apply.
“The primary objective is to encourage customers to take into account the energy efficiency of the products. We encourage them to purchase energy efficient products because they cause less strain on the environment and cost less on the monthly utility bill,” Smith said.
The rebate program was closed in July, except for lighting products and refrigerator/freezer recycling, because funds had been depleted. From December 2003 to July 2004 PG&E received more than 100,000 rebate applications totaling more than $10 million.
Customers who had previously completed applications for qualifying products and received a program closure letter do not need to reapply. They will be automatically sent a rebate check. Those who sent incomplete applications will receive a letter requesting additional information to complete the process.
Funding for the rebate programs comes from the Public Purpose Programs charge included in monthly utility bills. Purchasing qualifying energy efficiency products helps save money for the customers and reduces peak energy usage during high demand days, both in the summer and winter.
