Less than two days before the Garlic Festival opens its gates, the weather couldn’t be better.
Mostly sunny skies will usher in the weekend with highs in the mid-80s, according to the National Weather Service. A light breeze, along with plenty of shade and refreshment booths, is sure to keep festival goers energized.
Garlic Festival representatives said the cooler weather is ideal.
“I’m loving it,” said Garlic Festival Executive Director Brian Bowe. “It’s overcast in the morning but it burns off in the afternoon. It’s just perfect. The weather is definitely cooperating.”
If it’s too hot, people won’t eat. Cooler weather often encourages people to stick around longer, which means more sales of everything, Garlic Festival President Greg Bozzo said.
That trend proved to be true during some cooler days at the festival last year, Bowe said. He also indicated that toasty temperatures can produce their own set of problems.
“The hotter it gets, unfortunately sometimes you have people who get dehydrated and maybe pass out,” he said.
On the other hand, lemonade and water sales decline as things cool down, he said.
Ultimately, people at the festival expect hot weather, and the event should draw huge crowds regardless of climate conditions, Bowe said.
“No matter what the temperature, we’re ready for them,” he said.
