Community Solutions is offering free teenage drug and alcohol prevention workshops for parents in Morgan Hill, Gilroy and South San Jose.

Families That Care classes begin Monday, Jan. 24, and will be offered in the morning and evening from 10am-noon and from 6-8pm. Classes will be available in both English and Spanish and childcare will be provided for children 3 years and older.

Parents interested in learning how to reduce the risk of their children using drugs and alcohol should register by calling 846-4750. Locations of closest workshops will be given at the time of registration. Parents completing the program will receive a $25 gift certificate to Wal-Mart.

The Families That Care program focuses on how to prevent drug use in families and helps improve family communication, develop healthy beliefs and establish clear standards for children. Parents will learn strategies to assist their children in avoiding drug use and other adolescent problem behaviors.

Focus is also on setting clear family guidelines on drugs, learning and practicing skills to strengthen family bonds, helping children develop healthy behaviors, and increasing their children’s involvement in the family.
