varsity boys basketball coach.
Morgan Hill – Live Oak’s Brett Paolucci has decided to step down as the head varsity boys basketball coach.
With newborn twins Quinn and Kellan and another 2-year-old child at home, Paolucci’s decision stemmed from his desire to spend more time at home.
“Brett did a tremendous job,” Live Oak athletic director Mark Cummins said. “His teams always played hard and were well-prepared. Hopefully, he’ll want to coach again when his children get a little older. The coaching profession needs people like Brett Paolucci.”
Paolucci spent four years coaching the JV team before taking over the varsity team, where he has been for the last eight years.
“We had a good run,” Paolucci said. “There was a lot of good memories. We’ve had some really good athletes.”
One of the highlights for Paolucci was making the Central Coast Section playoffs five straight years and having back-to-back 20-plus win seasons.
Live Oak had a frustrating season this year moving over to the Blossom Valley Athletic League, but it wasn’t the most flustrating. The Acorns won just one game in the 2000-01 season.
Paolucci plans to continue teaching his world history classes even though he won’t be coaching.
“I feel my services are more needed at home right now,” Paolucci said. “I’m not ruling out never coaching again. It’s fun being with them. They’re a blast.”
