MONTEREY – The Morgan Hill Palomino team started off its season going 1-1-1 in the six-team Memorial Day Tournament.

In the first game, Live Oak hurler Kyle Bennet pitched no-hitter into the seventh inning against Belmont before giving up a hit. Greg Zaribi pitched the eighth inning before the game ended at 0-0 because of time.

In the second game, Morgan Hill played Watsonville, which is in an American League that allows 19-year-olds to play. and lost 10-0.

John Kirkish from Girloy pitched well for first three innings but ran out of gas. Scott Hayslip came in gave up one run in the third inning and two in next two innings.

On Monday, Morgan Hill was on the other side of the mercy rule, defeating ABA Blue from the Monterey area 11-1. Dan Benevento laid down a nice squeeze bunt for the Athletics to score Mark Johnson, who plays for Los Gatos High School.

Dylan Regan pitched all six innings. He had nine strikeouts. Dave Newton was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Kirkish went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple.
