The Morgan Hill Palomino Athletics team has come back after a tough start to string together some wins together to qualify for the playoffs, which begin Saturday at Valley Christian in San Jose.

Morgan Hill wraps up its season with an 8-11.

“The way started our record could have been a lot worse,” said coach Roy Jackson.

Gilroy grad John Kirkish was the losing pitcher in the final game on Monday against the Santa Clara Dodgers after experiencing a string of tough luck in the 14-8 loss.

“Unfortunately, he had his one bad out of the year,” Jackson said.

The hitting is also starting to come around. Players like Dave Newton and Ryan Hanson have hit the ball well all season long, Jackson said.

But the team is also starting to get some contributions for guys like Chris Horner, Kyle Bennett, Trevor Molyneaux and Dan Benevento. Bennett has also been solid on the mound.

“We have played everyone,” Jackson said. “There are two or three teams significantly better than us. And we have beat some of the top teams and been close against other teams.”
