Hey Green Phone, I was seeing if you could find something out
for me. I was wondering if there were any open gyms where you could
play basketball in Morgan Hill and Gilroy. I like to play indoor
and can
’t seem to find a place listed that allows an open gym. If you
can find that out, that’d be great.

You’re in luck. There are a couple of opportunities in Morgan Hill and Gilroy.

Every Wednesday from 7-9pm, you can play basketball at St. Catherine’s School free of charge. The school is located on 17500 Peak Avenue.

If you’re more of a night owl, you can play hoops until the sun comes up at 24-hour Fitness on 850 Tennant Station.

If you’re not a member, you can still have all-night access to the basketball court for the $10 general workout fee.

If you want to spend a littl more gas money, starting next week, Gilroy’s Parks and Recreation Division will open up the Ascencion Solorsano Middle School gymnasium every Tuesday night from 6 to 9.

There will be a $2 fee at the door and only those high-school-age or older will be able to play.

The gym, located on Santa Teresa Boulevard across from Eagle Ridge, will also be open for volleyball enthusiasts at the same time every Thursday.

I’d just like to know why (our sister papers) the Gilroy Dispatch and Hollister Free Lance give the Giants more coverage than the Athletics, who have been just as successful in recent years. I already knew the (San Jose) Mercury-News was pro-Giants, but I didn’t know those guys were, too.

The Dispatch and Free Lance sports editors said if they do give the Giants more coverage, it’s not by conscientous effort or the workings of a vast NL-wing conspiracy.

The sports departments from those papers assure The Times that they provide every game story from each team and do their best to evenly divide up the feature stories.

They even try to make sure such things as the trivia question and the “Quote of the Day” are alternated between the two teams.

Thanks for keeping an eye on all of us, though. Feedback is always appreciated.
