Roberto G. Valdez
Roberto G. Valdez passed away at Mabie Skilled Nursing Center Northside, September 10th at the age of 87 years after a courageous battle with lung cancer. A native of Guanajuato, Mexico, Roberto has been a resident of San Benito County for over 50 years, where he started as a seasonal agricultural employee harvesting tree and row crops; worked as a pruner and later retired as a full time electrician for Tri-Valley Cannery, where he had spent 25 years. Roberto was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Teamsters Local No. 890 of Salinas. He was a collector of a wide selection of ceramics and artifacts, some of which may be seen in his yard. " He liked to stay busy; he was a true fixer-upper who liked working in his yard, enjoyed watching boxing matches and the bull fights on T.V and was respected for his ability as a pool player in Hollister." "He received the most joy, however, doing things for his family, grandchildren, and friends-always lending a helping hand", said his children.
Jimmy Carrillo
Jimmy Carrillo, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, went to join his lord on March 10, 2010. Jimmy was born to Joseph Brabbio Carrillo and Edith Johnson on December 2, 1929 at home in Colorado. Jimmy was a loving husband to Bertha (Duran) for forty- five years. They built their home in Morgan Hill and their family followed.
T. Scott Laird, M.D.
Terry Scott Laird, M. D., died May 19, 2009, in Santa Cruz, CA, at the age of 67. Scott was born November 22, 1941 in Oakdale, CA, a fourth generation native born Californian, to May and Terry Turner Laird, M.D. He is survived by his wife, Ruth , his sons, David , Michael and Sam, his sister, Jane Laird Sharp, daughters-in law, Joyce Laird, and Heather Reed, his grandgirls Marisa, Keiko, Anabela and Abby Laird, nieces, nephews and great-nephew.

Ramona (Mona) Simmons
Mona was born in Gilroy, CA and attended schools in Morgan Hill. She leaves her mother Alicia (Alice) Marquez Gonzales (David) from Gilroy, her sister, Julia Ann (Julie) Zollin (Steve), of OR, and her brother, Manuel Avena, Jr. of Susanville. She was preceded in death by her father Manuel Avena, Sr. of Riverbank, CA. The apples of her eye were nephews; Zachary Gutierrez and Noah Zollin, and niece Carolin Zollin. She leaves many uncles, aunts, and a multitude of cousins. Mona worked 20 years for the County of Santa Clara. She will be greatly missed.
Pamela Ann Ahlin
Pamela passed away suddenly at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on Oct. 9th at the age of 57 years. Pam was a native of Hollister and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of San Benito High School and the Gavilan College Nursing Program. Pamela spent 20 years as a Licensed Vocational Nurse working at convalescent hospitals in San Benito County. "Besides being a very generous, caring, and loving person, Pamela had a great big heart", said her family. She enjoyed collecting Tinkerbell and Cow memorabilia (figurines and paintings); sewing, arts and crafts, and traveling to the Sierras. Pamela is survived by her husband Bob Ahlin; mother Alice Hyman; brothers; Robert Prater and Charles Hyma, spouse Danielle, all of Hollister, nieces; Sarah Prater Romay, spouse Robert of Sacramento, and Allison Prater of Napa; and great-nephew Robert Romay of Sacramento. She was predeceased by her father Kenneth Prater. Arrangements have been made for private cremation and inurnment at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home & Crematory. Friends are invited to a memorial celebration of Pamela's life on Wednesday Oct. 17th at 1:00 P.M. at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home. Memorials are preferred to Mabie Skilled Nursing Center Southside,c/o the funeral home chapel.
