Morgan Hill Unified School District graduates are living the Timbuk3 song, “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades,” as more than 90 percent of the 2013 graduating classes from Ann Sobrato and Live Oak high schools will be furthering their education in the fall.
While Sobrato’s 2013 grads were awarded $785,000 in scholarships ($2.977 million renewable over four years), 110 of 245 Live Oak graduates received more than $1.1 million in scholarship and awards, according to a press release from the district.
At LOHS, where 92 percent of graduates will seek a higher education degree, 36 percent are headed to four-year universities — including 24 to San Jose State; eight to UC Santa Cruz and Chico State; four to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo; three to UC San Diego and University of Arizona and two to Stanford University. In addition, 56 percent will take classes at junior colleges with 50 graduates set to attend nearby Gavilan College.
At Sobrato, where 89 percent of the 339 graduates will further their education, 39 percent, or 132 students, are headed to four-year institutes — including 28 to San Jose State; 10 to Cal Poly-SLO; six to UC Davis, UC Irvine and UC Santa Cruz; five to Santa Clara University, San Francisco State and UC San Diego; four to Sonoma State; and three to Brigham Young University. In addition, 50 percent will take classes at junior colleges with 44 at Gavilan and 25 at West Valley Community College.
At Central Continuation High School, graduates were awarded $9,935 in college scholarships.
