Three students, including the creator of a petition that brought to light the mathematical tribulations of classmates at Sobrato High School, addressed the school board June 20 in hopes of generating future conversations for change in teacher practices.

Morgan Hill Unified School District showed a slight decline in state student test scores this year and maintained a cavernous achievement gap between Hispanic students and their classmates based on the 2017 Smarter Balanced Assessment Results released last week.

The adversarial relationship between one in-town charter school and the local school district reared its head recently as the two sides again took swipes at one another over a proposal for a new school site.

“Ramon, you did it!” declared one sign amidst a sea of colorful Mylar balloons, bouquets and shade-giving umbrellas during Live Oak High School’s June 6 graduation ceremony, where cap and gown-clad seniors strode onto Richert Field as the traditional graduation song, “Pomp and Circumstance” played in the background.

Morgan Hill Unified School District’s superintendent sent out a March 7 letter to all “employees, parents, guardians and students” regarding the district’s strategy to allow for student participation in planned school walkouts and protests.
