Sobrato Parents Plan Grad Night

Morgan Hill – The newest high school in town is preparing for its first graduating class next year and a small group of parent volunteers is working to start up a Grad Night for the Class of 2007.

Dancer Performs in Dance Concert

Morgan Hill dancer Ryan Ramirez will be performing in an upcoming dance concert as a member of the pre-professional Teen Dance Company of the Bay Area. Ramirez is 14 years old and has been dancing for 10 years. Last year Ramirez auditioned for the company and became one of its youngest members. She's an eighth-grade student at the Oakwood Country School where she has earned a 4.0-grade-point average. She will be attending Saint Francis High School in the fall.

Machado School

Historic Machado School is now the home for Morgan Hill School District students to learn about the past, as the school is being used for pioneer days programs and other school historical reenactments. The idea is a popular concept, and the school is being used on a regular basis. More docents are needed to help run the programs. No special qualifications are needed, except appreciation for kids having fun while learning. A short training session will be provided. Interested? Call Jan Strahan at 779-5731 or e-mail her at [email protected].

St. Olaf College

Morgan Hill resident Rebecca Blessing was among more than 1,500 St. Olaf College students recognized for academic achievement at the college's annual Honors Day convocation May 5. Blessing is a junior at St. Olaf, a Northfield, Minn.-based four-year college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Festival Gives Back to the Community

Celebrating Morgan Hill's top crop – the Mushroom – is not the main purpose of the Mardi Gras Festival. The real reason for all the fungus-eating and fun-making is money. The festival is a non-profit organization with every dollar above and beyond the cost of putting on the festival going into the scholarship fund, as well as providing donations to non-profit clubs and organizations who participate in the festival.
