A higher percentage of students in the Morgan Hill and Gilroy Unified School Districts are proficient or advanced in the 2013 California Standards Tests – a major component of the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) assessment – than the state as a whole.

The new mission statement adoped Wednesday night by the Santa Clara County Board of Education states, “The Santa Clara County Office of Education is committed to serving, inspiring and promoting student and public school success,” according to a press release from the SCCOE.

Students in the Gavilan College Computer Graphics and Design program kept their creative juices flowing and extended their winning streak - receiving honors and awards for their projects on display at the California State Fair in Sacramento for a fourth straight year.

Susan Dodd and Gavilan College have had a symbiotic relationship for 37 years, and now – even with the decorated educator’s retirement from the institution at age 63 – her legacy will live on.

The Santa Clara County Fair opens to the public August 1, but 4-H and Future Farmers of America organizations from Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy are already in the swing of things, competing on fairgrounds since July 28.
