Local volunteers plant trees at San Pedro Pond
About 30 Morgan Hill residents planted 70 oaks and other valley-native trees at the San Pedro Percolation Ponds on Feb. 21 to beauty the Santa Clara Valley Water District site.
“There’s a lot of people who use the trail,” said Ken Mort, a member of the San Pedro Ponds Trail Volunteers, which organized the event. “I’ve talked to them and they say it’ll be nice to put in trees to make the place look like it did when oaks were abundant in the valley more than 100 years ago.”
The trees were provided at cost by the Our City Forest, a nonprofit based in San Jose. They will go into the registrar of the Shaklee Corporation’s “Million Trees” campaign to promote the planting of trees to improve the world’s environment.
The San Pedro Ponds Trail Volunteers plan at least two more tree plantings at the ponds which are located in Morgan Hill at Hill Road and San Pedro Avenue. For details on how to volunteer or contribute funds for tree purchases, call 776-2933.
