CYSA wants to extend lease on Condit fields
The California Youth Soccer Association would like to extend their lease on the Condit fields through June 30, 2006, City Manager Ed Tewes told the City Council recently. CYSA’s current lease expires at the end of October.
CYSA would prefer leasing the fields through the end of next year and realizes, since construction of the outdoor sports complex will be underway, that they will have reduced access to the fields, Tewes said.
Tewes indicated the city and CYSA also plan to explore some Phase I improvements, such as minor repairs to the parking lot, so the CYSA could benefit from these improvements while the group leases the fields.
Discussions regarding an interim lease will continue. The city has received $17,000 a year in the past from CYSA for use of the fields.
Police beating the streets to round up criminals
After their successful effort at bringing in criminals, especially those connected with burglaries and auto burglaries, in the spring, Morgan Hill Police are again going to be putting extra manpower and extra focus on rounding up criminals.
Now through Labor Day, a special crime suppression team will be saturating the city, focused on seeking out criminals and bringing them in. “Operation Seek and Apprehend” will have officers out conducting bar checks, making contacts with pedestrians, looking for any suspicious activity. This focused effort is something officers cannot normally do on a daily basis because they must respond to calls for service.
Guglielmo wins gold
Guglielmo Winery won gold for its 2003 Private Reserve Santa Clara Valley Zinfandel at the 2005 Los Angeles County fair. Entries were submitted at the beginning of April and judges made their decisions in early May. Results were published in July.
The vintage is made from estate Zinfadel vineyards, first planted by Emilio Guglielmo nearly 70 years ago.
The Guglielmo wine will be showcased, along with other winners from the nearly 4,000 wines submitted by 1,003 wineries, at the Los Angeles County Fair Sept. 9 – Oct. 2 in Pamona.
Outdoor dining becoming popular
During the public comment portion of a recent city council meeting, Dan Craig, executive director of the Morgan Hill Downtown Association, said he’s observed a number of outdoor dining spots sprouting around downtown, like House of Bagels, Caffee Kaffe Vin, the Plaza, Rosy’s at the Beach.
“(These places) make a great appearance in the streets and provide more activity for downtown. I invite people to check them out. We’d like to see more of that downtown,” Craig said.
