Local Man Injured in 101 Accident
A Morgan Hill man was hospitalized Friday night after a single vehicle accident on Highway 101.
Alex Gonzalez, 35, was also arrested for driving under the influence after the 7pm accident. According to the California Highway Patrol report, Gonzalez was seen driving a new Mercedes SL500 “very reckless” and at speeds of over 100 mph southbound on the highway, near Mesa Road.
As he was passing slower vehicles, according to the report, he turned into the dirt center divider and lost control of the Mercedes, smashing into the guardrail then careening across both southbound lanes of the highway. The Mercedes stopped in a dirt field south of Mesa Road on the west side of Highway 101.
After he was arrested, Gonzalez was flown to Valley Medical Center in San Jose by Life Flight with a major laceration to his head.
Police Arrest Man for Throwing Chairs
A Morgan Hill man became violent early Sunday morning and was arrested at his home on Carriage Drive, according to MHPD Cmdr. Joe Sampson. Isac Gomez, 45, was apparently drunk when he began throwing chairs from the residence at approximately 1:15am. His relatives called police and tried to restrain him on the front lawn. When officers arrived, they noticed “objective symptoms of intoxication,” Sampson said. He was taken into custody for being drunk in public. Officers found .6 gram of marijuana on him. As he was placed in the patrol car, he continued to kick and fight, Sampson said. Once in the patrol car, he kicked out a window of the car and bent the door frame.
Ex-boyfriend Arrested For Assault
A Gilroy man was arrested early Sunday after trying to choke the new boyfriend of his former girlfriend. Alex Cabrera, 25, allegedly broke into the home of his former girlfriend on Barnell Avenue through a locked bathroom window, according to MHPD Cmdr. Joe Sampson. Once inside, he ran upstairs, pushing his way past the ex-girlfriend, yelling, “Who’s in the house?” He ran into the upstairs bedroom and knocked down Jose Tomayo, 28, of San Jose onto the bathroom floor. Sampson said Tomayo came out of the bathroom back into the bedroom, where Cabrera again grabbed him, this time in a choke hold. As Tomayo went down to his knees, the ex-girlfriend jumped in and attempted to cover Tomayo with her body to keep Cabrera from harming him further. Meanwhile, another friend who was in the house called police. Sampson said Cabrera ran out of the house and hid in the neighborhood, but police set up a perimeter and called in the Sheriff’s Office K9 unit. Cabrera gave up without any contact from the dog. He was taken to county jail on charges of burglary, domestic battery and assault and battery.
