Wine Organization Taps Local Dentist

Morgan Hill – Local dentist and philanthropist Jon Hatakeyama has served as chairman for the wine auction of the  31st annual Conference of the Society of Wine Educators (S.W.E.) held at the Monterey Hyatt Regency.

Hatakeyama’s experience with wine auctions was revealed by S.W.E. members on a flight returning from the 2006 S.W.E. conference in Vancouver. Soon after, the 2007 S.W.E. conference chairman Hood Shields asked Hatakeyama to chair the 2007 annual conference auction.

The S.W.E. is a national education organization based in Washington D.C. providing knowledge, training and certification to those interested or involved in the wine industry. The committee raised a record total during the short period of auction time.

Hatakeyama will host the “World of Port Wine” fundraiser for the local Teachers Aid Coalition at Clos La Chance Winery, 1 Hummingbird Lane, in San Martin, Aug. 30. Dorothy McNett, wine and food maven for Clementine’s Kitchen in Monterey is scheduled to speak while Jona Denz Hamilton, KBAY Radio personality, will emcee the event.

Details: Dr. Hatakeyama’s office at 779-7391 or at BookSmart at 778-6467. Tickets are $25 or $30 at door. TAC, a non-profit member organization of the Morgan Hill Community Foundation, will use the proceeds towards the purchase of classroom supplies for our Morgan Hill public school teachers this coming school year.
