As part of the Assessor’s on-going commitment to provide traditional, “front counter” public services on-line, County Assessor Larry Stone announced the introduction of a new service that will allow taxpayers to research property records via the internet. At the same time, the Assessor launched a new and improved website.
“Providing property records on-line saves taxpayers from having to visit our office,” said Assessor Larry Stone Property Records go On-Line,
“Since I was elected I have worked to expand public and information services available on-line to property owners and other interested parties,” Stone added. “By providing property records on-line, the public can access these records at their convenience, 24-7, from any computer hooked up to the World Wide Web.”
The new on-line service provides many of the same features offered at the assessor’s customer service counter. Basic information such as assessed values, parcel numbers, and the address of a property are available free of charge and can be searched by simply inputting the address or parcel number.
In addition the new service provides other enhanced features not available at the public service counter such as a direct link to the County Planning Department’s GIS Zoning Map feature for properties located in unincorporated areas, in addition to a list of the specific governmental agencies that receive property tax revenue from benefit from the assessed value of a specific property.
Consistent with state law, the system does not allow searches by owner name, nor are the names of individual property owners displayed.
The database will be updated weekly to reflect changes in ownership; however, assessed values are available only for the most recent annual assessment roll closures.
In addition, the Assessor unveiled a significantly improved Department website with over 350 documents including more than one hundred frequently asked questions, commonly used forms and detailed information about virtually every program offered by the Assessor’s Office.
“Before calling our staff, I encourage property taxpayers with access to the internet to review our website to see if their question can be answered on-line. It not only saves both staff and property owners time, but the information on the new website is available whenever you need it,” said Stone
To access the new website and the property lookup feature go to www.scc-assessor.org or the County’s website at www.sccgov.org.
