Hi, I’m new to Morgan Hill. My husband was transferred to Morgan
Hill and since moving here I’ve heard countless people talking
about how there’s all these rich people here with wealthy homes,
and that everyone here is too much of a snob to shop at a Wal-Mart.
I don’t get it, honestly, I don’t!
“Hi, I’m new to Morgan Hill. I moved here from Amador County a few months ago. I lived there for more than four years in a townhouse in a very beautiful gated community. Before that I lived in the Sacramento Valley area, and visited Roseville, Folsom and El Dorado Hills.

But my husband was transferred to Morgan Hill and since moving here I’ve heard countless people talking about how there’s all these rich people here with wealthy homes, and that everyone here is too much of a snob to shop at a Wal-Mart. I don’t get it, honestly, I don’t! The area I moved from was way more beautiful than Morgan Hill, and with less crime. I don’t see anything here that is prettier than Roseville or Folsom or the foothills of the Sacramento Valley.

I am just getting so sick and tired of all the snobs here! I can’t wait for the day when my husband gets the chance to return to the Sacramento area! What is there to be so stuck up about here? Just because you spent a million dollars on your house doesn’t mean you should walk around town with your nose in the air. I hate it here! People should be kinder.”

Red Phone: Dear Can’t Wait to Move, Red Phone read your diatribe twice just to make sure it was fully digested. First, welcome to Morgan Hill, and you are right on one point. People should be kinder. All people, all the time.

Second, Red Phone is not quite sure where you’ve been hanging out to hear all these people brag about their million dollar homes. Try having dinner at Rosy’s, the waitresses and bartender there are as nice as can be. Have a burrito from Super Taqueria, where everyone is friendly. Stop in for a cup of coffee at BookSmart, the owners and employees go out of their way to help you.

And, as far as Red Phone can tell, Wal-Mart is doing quite well. As for the beauty of Morgan Hill, Red Phone can only say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if you don’t like it here, well, Red Phone can only hope you get your wish and your husband is transferred north. Red Phone, out.

Where have all the deer gone?

“I have lived in the Jackson Oaks area of Morgan Hill for more than 30 years. We used to see a number of deer, or complete deer families every time we drove through the area. In the last two months, we have only seen a total of two deer. What happened?”

Red Phone: Dear Would-be Deer Watcher, Red Phone contacted Craig Stowers, deer program coordinator for the California Department of Fish and Game. He said the biggest reason is habitat loss or alteration.

“Forty million people put a lot of strain on the state’s resources and require a lot of land that formerly was wildlife habitat,” he said. “Additionally, most public land is managed in a way that is not beneficial to deer – fires are put out as soon as they start or get so big that they burn everything in their path; deer have to compete with livestock and forage over much of their range.

“Secondary reasons (specific to that area) include predation and disease. We experience outbreaks of a disease called Adenovirus every year (though we haven’t heard of one in the Morgan Hill area) – and it’s usually fatal. Predation appears to be an issue in fawn survival and may be one of the reasons we just aren’t recruiting young animals into the adult population.”

Hope that answers your question, good caller.
