Dear Editor,

Since there now seems to be a substantial amount of RDA funds available for Morgan Hill projects, it is time to increase the budget for our new community library. Although $17 million has been allocated for a new building, this is only enough for a no-frills, bare bones structure that is just 70% of the size actually needed for our growing community. Staying within this budget has been made even more difficult because of the amount needed for grading the sloping property. There are insufficient funds set aside for library furnishings and landscaping, and none at all for public art, all of which would enhance the appearance of the building.

Morgan Hill deserves better. If you agree, please let the City Council know. They will soon be deciding how to allocate remaining RDA funds.

Plans for the new library will be presented to the council for their approval on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
