A new NFL flag football league will kick off this September for area athletes ages 6 to 14 years old.

The South Bay Football League offers youth a fun and safe alternative to soccer and tackle football. The NFL Flag League is a no-contact five player passing game, sponsored by the NFL. All players will receive an NFL logo jersey and flag belt to keep.

The $70 entry fee pays for eight games, the jersey and flags, skill development sessions and championship awards. Practices are the same day as the games so it is easy to fit into a busy lifestyle.

Founders Jeff Dixon and Mike Lopez said they are excited about the new program.

“We have enjoyed football all our lives,” they said in a press release. “This program enables us to pass the fun on. We make sure the kids have fun and go home tired! Parents will like the program because of its convenience. We practice and play all within a few hours on the weekend.”

The South Bay Football program will run three locations this fall:

In Morgan Hill, the games will be played Sundays from 1pm to 5pm at Nordstrom Elementary on East Dunne. starting Sept. 18 and running until early November. Walk in sign-ups are available at Glory Days Sports Pub, 17230 S. Monterey Rd.

In South San Jose, the games will be played on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm at Windmill Springs Park near McLaughlin and Capitol Expwy. starting Sept. 17 and running until early November. Walk-in sign-ups are available at Round Table Pizza, 1015 E. Capitol Expwy.

In Campbell, the games will be played Sundays from 1pm to 5pm at Campbell Community Center at the corner of Winchester and Campbell starting Sept. 25 and running until early November. Walk-in sign-ups are available at Jerseys Cheese steaks and Subs 1781 Winchester Blvd.
