Red Phone: Dear Curious Minds, Red Phone contacted Associate Engineer David Gittleson, who said the city is widening the eastbound direction of Cochrane Road to provide room for both a bike lane and new sidewalk facilities.
“No new water main is being installed, but water facilities, such as fire hydrants, backflow preventers and meters are being relocated,” Gittleson said. “The project is also replacing the sub-standard existing street lights with new city standard LED type.”
The city received a Transportation Fund for Clean Air grant from the Valley Transportation Authority and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District for $162,000 to cover some of the costs of the project. The total cost of construction is estimated at $511,000.

American flag thief on the loose
“Dear Red Phone, what is this world coming to? Three months ago someone stole our American flag off our flag pole. The very next day we hung a new flag with pride. This time however we tied it with plastic ties (just in case). Last Friday night someone tried to steal our flag again. Because they could not rip our flag down, they broke our pole and left it on the ground. What was the purpose? How disrespectful! Shame on you! You know who you are!”
Red Phone: Dear Disrespected, Red Phone is aghast that someone would stoop to such levels to steal an American flag flying proudly in your yard.
Perhaps it was just a bunch of juveniles committing a prank, but that’s not funny. Red Phone hopes it’s not someone with adverse feelings toward America going around stealing American flags. Red Phone has seen more than several flying in yards throughout Morgan Hill.
