Morgan Hill – Neurologist Anthony Vitto has relocated his Gilroy office to Morgan Hill. With the change, Dr. Vitto will be introducing state of the art neurodiagnostic technology that will be applicable to a multitude of neurological disorders including epilepsy, sleep disorders, Parkinsons disease, dementia, stroke, multiple sclerosis, migraine, peripheral neuropathies and muscle diseases.
“When we first opened our doors in early April, we didn’t even have carpeting, but since then we are about 90 percent there and will soon be completing installation of our new equipment,” Vitto said.
That new machinery will include transcranial doppler, electroencephalography, and electromyography, nerve conduction, and evoked potentials.
“I don’t know of any neurologist in Santa Clara County that actually performs EEG studies (for epilepsy) in the office. We are excited and proud to be offering that service in Morgan Hill,” Vitto said.
Transcranial doppler evaluations are essentially limited to academic centers such as Stanford and it will be a feather in Morgan Hill’s cap to provide that emerging service to the South County in an office setting, he added.
Vitto holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry in addition to his M.D. and did his neurology residency at Stanford. He has research experience including a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School where he carried out research related to Alzheimer’s disease and taught the Biology of Aging to Harvard undergraduates. He has also been designated as a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, an honor given only to a few neurologists who have demonstrated excellence and service in the academic community as well as the public. He has been practicing in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties since l993 and was Chief of Neurology at San Jose Medical Group before being recruited to come down to the Gilroy/Morgan Hill area by Saint Louise Regional Hospital. He also had a second practice in Monterey, but has now consolidated to his one office in Morgan Hill, located at the Butterfield Professional Center at 18181 Butterfield Blvd.
The new building was originally approved by the city to house medical/health-related businesses, and was part of an ongoing attempt to bring back physicians to the area, Vitto said, adding that the office spaces are actually purchased, designed and built out by the individual business owners. In addition to three medical practices, the building houses a dentist, chiropractor, physical therapist, optometrist, the Butterfield Pharmacy, and Pinnacle Bank. “I would invite the citizens of Morgan Hill and Gilroy to come by to see what a nice place it has become,” Vitto said.
