The twenty-eighth annual Mt. Madonna Challenge 6k and 12k
walk/run event, a fund raiser for the South Valley Symphony, will
take place on Sunday, morning Aug. 24 at Mt. Madonna County
Park.
The twenty-eighth annual Mt. Madonna Challenge 6k and 12k walk/run event, a fund raiser for the South Valley Symphony, will take place on Sunday, morning Aug. 24 at Mt. Madonna County Park.

The 6k Salamander Walk and race will begin at 8:30 a.m. while the 12k Mt. Madonna Challenge run is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

Runners will gather at the Sprig Lake picnic area for registration or may register online at “active.com” A good sized field of runners is expected as early registrations are already coming in from the bay area and the central area.

The scenic courses will take runners through groves of oak manzanita and redwood trees. The 6k or 3.6 mile loop has an elevation of gain of some 700 feet while the 12 k event will entail an elevation gain of 1200 feet.

Due to limited parking, participants are urged to carpool wherever possible. Shuttle service will be provided from the Mt. Madonna Inn to Sprig Lake at no charge.

Pre-registration fees are $20 with shirt and $13 without shirt. They may be mailed to South Valley Symphony, Mt. Madonna Challenge. PO Box 1347, Gilroy, Ca 95021-1347. Day registration fees will be $25 with shirt and $18 without shirt.

Medals will be awarded to the first 3 places in each group in both races. Trophies will be awarded to the first place man and woman in the 12k race only. Details: 683-4683.
