Cajun food coming soon to Morgan Hill

Red Phone, I’m calling with a question. What is happening with
the mosque that was supposed to be built at California Avenue in
San Martin?
“Red Phone, I’m calling with a question. What is happening with the mosque that was supposed to be built at California Avenue in San Martin? Doesn’t look like anything is going on. I’m hoping you’re going to say it’s not going to be built. OK, thank you.”

Red Phone: Dear Wondering, Red Phone is not sure why you hope it’s not built, but you can rest easy, at least for the time being.

According to a story in Tuesday’s edition of this paper, the South Valley Islamic Community has let its permits with the county expire, due in large part to the economic climate. But, organizers still hope to resubmit plans in the near future.

“We are still pursuing our mosque and community center project with the county,” SVIC spokesman Sal Akhter told reporter Michael Moore. “However, due to the adverse economic conditions we have encountered some delays and we hope to get back on track in the near future.”

There you have it, good caller.

Where can I donate fruit from trees

“I know I’ve seen it in the news before. There is an organization that will come out and take fruit you don’t want off the trees then they give it to people who can use it. What is that organization? If you could find that out it would be awesome because a lot of trees have fruit on them right now and we would like to know where we can donate it.”

Red Phone: Dear Free Fruit, Check out Village Harvest, a nonprofit volunteer organization that harvests extra fruit from backyards and small orchards to provide food for the hungry, and providing education on fruit tree care, harvesting and using fruit.

In 2009, 900 volunteers harvested 173,000 pounds of fruit. They are headquartered in San Jose but have volunteer teams serving communities in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Yolo Counties. Check them out at www.villageharvest.org, or call (888) FRUIT-411 (888-378-4841).

Good caller, hope that helps you get that ripe fruit off your trees and into the hands – and mouths – of those who really need it.
