Towering junior pitcher/outfielder Kyle Mosbrucker is already
attracting plenty of attention from college scouts for his strong
right arm. But it was his bat that came through for the Live Oak
High baseball team in its season-opener on Thursday. Mosbrucker,
playing right field and batting clean-up, slammed a three-run homer
to give host LO the early lead en route to a 6-4 victory over
Capuchino. The bomb, which traveled well over the left-field fence,
scored Bryce Wilson and Andrew Cummins ahead of Mosbrucker.

The bomb, which traveled well over the left-field fence, scored Bryce Wilson and Andrew Cummins ahead of Mosbrucker.

“Kyle didn’t get that much of a chance to hit last year but he’s hit all through the lower leagues and he’s looking good so far,” LO coach Mark Cummins said.

Capuchino rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the third before LO tallied single runs in the third, fourth and fifth inning to take control of the game.

Cummins called the game, which featured eight errors, a “typically sloppy game in the early part of the season.”

Sophomore Cameron Willis, brought up from the junior varsity to make one start, got the victory, junior Ryan Bennett pitched three innings in relief, and junior John Stemel pitched the seventh to pick up the save.

LO plays a pair of games today in the Wilcox Tournament at Archbishop Mitty High. The Acorns play Saratoga at 12:30pm and Mitty at 3:30pm.

Meanwhile, the LO softball team saw its first action of the spring in a scrimmage at Leigh on Thursday. The Lady Acorns open their seasons by hosting Branham on Thursday next week at 3:45pm at Community Park.
