Legal disputes and conflicts cost businesses billions of dollars a year in lawyers’ fees, lost productivity, time and aggravation. A new book by Morgan Hill author Robert Christopher proposes an innovative, faster and simpler way to settle common business and legal disputes without the huge costs and headaches of lengthy litigation or traditional alternative dispute resolution, according to a press release. .
“Just Right: How Neutral-Driven Resolution Can Close the Gap in American Civil Justice” brings a new, rational approach to settling limited-stakes disputes (between $10,000 and $2 million) in a much faster, far less costly, and less adversarial way.
“I’m offering a simple and practical tool that everyone can adopt in their business and personal lives to improve outcomes, financial bottom lines, and best of all peace of mind,” said Christopher, who has 40 years of experience in the legal and business professions. “Not coincidentally, win or lose, these better outcomes also create real justice that respects both economic proportion and personal dignity.”
Local residents can meet Christopher and get a signed copy of his book at an April 14 book signing event at BookSmart, 421 Vineyard Town Center. The event starts at 5:30pm.
Called NDR—Neutral-Driven Resolution—the method engages neutral judges, peers, or experts agreed by both parties to drive a truth-focused resolution process, instead of dueling lawyers. The NDR process can be written into contracts at the time of signing so that should any dispute arise, the NDR process will preempt any lawsuit and enable principled settlement. “It’s like having a spare tire in your trunk,” Christopher says. “You may never need it but it sure is nice to know it’s there if there’s a blow-out.”
Christopher’s book, now available on Amazon and other online bookstores, outlines the NDR process using case studies, anecdotes and illustrations that explain in great detail how it has helped many business owners save time, money and relationships, says the press release.
As an AV Preeminent litigation and trial attorney, Christopher served as Managing Partner of the
Northern California region of international law firm Coudert Brothers, and Litigation Counsel with
Hopkins & Carley, specializing in commercial, antitrust and intellectual property disputes. A successful lead trial attorney in major jury cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, Christopher is an experienced neutral arbitrator, mediator and settlement judge pro tem. He is also General Counsel to his family-owned Christopher Ranch LLC in Gilroy, the nation’s leading producer of garlic, where he has used NDR to help resolve supplier and employee disputes, according to the press release.
