n Blue Star Moms, a support group of parents whose sons and daughters are serving or have served in the military are hoping to start a chapter here in our area. Their goal is to support military personnel and veteran’s organizations through service activities and they also offer a military advocacy program.
The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 7pm at American Legion Post 564, 2120 Walsh Ave., Santa Clara. For details call Jacquie Jauch at 739-1469 or visit www.bluestarmoms.org for more information.
If you have a son or daughter in the Armed Forces, the American Legion Post 444 would be honored to present you with a Blue Star Banner at the Sept. 11 observance of Patriot’s Day. The Banner shows the community there is a person from this home actively serving our country, stateside or abroad.
Aa Gold Star on the banner shows that a military person from this home was killed or died in military service. Please contact Mary Ellen Salzano at 779-6916 or George Shebib at 779-5451 to reserve your banner. A collection bin for care and comfort items for our military will be available.
n In closing, the Seattle Times recently wrote about the Road to Happiness, and if you dedicate one day a week to each thought, your life will be transformed. So many of us seek happiness outside of ourselves, when truly change begins inside. Change begins when we take personal responsibility for ourselves. Scientific and anecdotal evidence shows there are influences you can control to increase happiness, harmony and internal peace.
Be grateful. Dwell on the wonderful things life has blessed you with. Forgive: yourself and others. Let go of anger, hurt, resentment and fear, for the present and for the past. Don’t let the past predict your present and future. Make Friends. The happiest people enjoy great friendships. People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges.
Challenge yourself: step outside your comfort zone by taking a community college class, or learning a new hobby. Be courteous, respectful and civil and good to others. Let small things slide and in the long run it’s almost all small. Realize that money does not buy happiness, another day of sunshine, health or friendship and love.
n In closing, this mama heard the best words possible from her Marine son a few days ago. “Mom, don’t send any more care packages, I’m coming home soon.”
So, as I look forward to the day our Marine son steps back on homeland soil, I rejoice, yet my heart aches for those whose time has just begun. Know, our dear protectors of our freedoms that you are prayed for and supported here in Morgan Hill and the world.
May your month be filled with apples of gold: love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.
