Michael D. Filice, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at his home
in Gilroy.
Michael D. Filice, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at his home in Gilroy.
Michael was born in Cosenza, Italy, and moved to San Jose in 1920 at the age of 7. He graduated from San Jose High School in 1933. In 1953 he moved to Gilroy. Mike was a rancher in San Jose, Placerville and Gilroy. He was a member and past board member of the Prune Bargaining Association, Parks and Recreation Commissioner from 1977-1985, life-long member of Gilroy Golf Course, 40-year member of the Gilroy Elks, and he was active in local charitable organizations incl-uding the Gavilan District Special Olympics. Mike also was inducted into the Santa Clara County Senior Hall of Fame in 1986.
He was the loving father of Shirley Marcussen of Visalia, Alice Vierra and her husband Gil of Dinuba, Bob Dooley and his wife Joan of Benton, Ariz., and Carolyn De Francesco and her husband Mario of Firebaugh; grandfather of 17; great-grandfather of 30; great-great-grandfather of 20; brother of Joe Filice of Bakersfield, Louie Filice and Angie Behm. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his first and second wife Mabel O. Filice and June Filice; parents Peter and Mary Filice; son Vernon Dooley; and brother Eugene Filice.
Funeral services take place at 10am on Monday, Feb. 7, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Burial follows at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
