Socorro Shiels, currently the assistant superintendent of educational services in the Morgan Hill Unified School District, has been selected out of 12 applicants as the new superintendent of Santa Rosa City Schools.
Shiels, 41, has served as a bilingual teacher, high school vice principal and elementary school principal.

Smith says Shiels has helped implement innovative approaches to attain educational equity.
