The Morgan Hill Police Officers Association has announced that for the first time, it will award a college scholarship to a local high school student.

Students have until Feb. 1, 2020 to apply for the $1,000 scholarship. Applicants must be currently enrolled in Live Oak or Sobrato High School.

“The MHPOA has regularly sought ways to connect with our community from attending the annual ‘National Night Out’ to hosting ‘Coffee with a Cop,’” reads a press release from the MHPOA. “We are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.”

The association hosts an annual golf tournament fundraiser, with proceeds funding the annual holiday season “Shop with a Cop” program for local fourth-graders.

Now, the POA is “excited” to be funding its first $1,000 scholarship for one local soon-to-be college freshman, says the press release.

Those interested in applying for the scholarship must submit a 500-1,000 word essay introducing oneself and explaining how they plan to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Go to the MHPOA Facebook page and click “Like.” When your essay is ready, it should be submitted to the MHPOA Facebook page through Messenger.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 1. The MHPOA will review all applications and announce the scholarship winner by April 2020.
