I was very pleased to see Pony Baseball recognized for the years of community involvement and improvements they have made to our local recreational facilities. They have set a wonderful example of what community is about. It’s about a group of people with common interest getting together and enriching the lives of many Morgan Hill youth.
The Morgan Hill Raiders have shared the facilities at Britton Middle School for many years. We are a smaller organization but do the exact same thing by providing healthy, structured activities for youth. Both programs feed our high school with talented young people who have learned sportsmanship and how to work in teams. The skills our youth learn by playing organized sports will follow them throughout their lives and help them to be good students and citizens.
Our community has been blessed with many contributions from the youth baseball community. We have many diamonds at many schools as stated in Pony Baseball’s recent letter to the editor – not to mention the proposed Sports Complex, which has even more diamonds. Their program will continue to flourish in our community, which differs from the situation that the Raiders and our high school football, cheer and band program are faced with. We have one football field, which cannot be use by anyone for an undetermined amount of time.
By collaborating and working together the Raiders and Pony Baseball can expand the meaning of “community” by working together to improve the Britton field so all of our youth can benefit from it. The Raider organization looks at Pony Baseball as an example.
As a new Board of Directors in our second year, we want to grow and contribute to our community athletic fields, too. We maintain the field and facilities just like Pony Baseball during our five months of usage. We have filled holes in the field, cleaned the trash, cared for the snack shack, brought on temporary lights and added our own storage container with Britton School’s official permission this year.
Again, the community should be grateful to Pony Baseball for their contribution to our community fields. The Morgan Hill Raiders are looking to Pony Baseball for support and cooperation while we wait for a response and permission from the school board to begin improving the community playing fields at Britton.
