Ending its summer season on a winning note, the Pride of Morgan Hill 16U A traveling team captured the Morgan Hill Slugfest Tournament championship last month. The Pride team went undefeated in the tourney, which was held at Community Park, outscoring its opponents 54-11.

In the championship game, the Pride beat the Pajaro Valley Tremblers 7-4, behind Ashley Frost’s complete-game victory. Noelani Calvillo, Courtney Curtis and Frost led the Pride offense.

The Pride advanced to the finals after downing the Salinas Rippers 7-1. Angelica Michel and Kelly McDonald both had three hits, while Tricia Goularte had a pair of hits, including a home run, to lead a 12-hit attack. On the mound, Goularte tossed a complete-game four-hitter for the Pride.

In addition to its Slugfest tourney title, the Pride 16U A squad also took second in two tourneys, and third in another. The team’s overall record was 18-11, with seven shutouts. Goularte (Live Oak High), Frost (Valley Christian) and Jessica Solorio (Salinas) shared the pitching duties.
