A remarkable two-year run continues for the Morgan Hill Pony
Baseball Pony 13-year-old all-stars. Already section champs this
year after making it to within just a few wins of the Bronco World
Series last season, the Morgan Hill Pony 13s have rolled through
the Regional Tournament and are one win away from claiming the
regional title. On Saturday, the MH Pony 13s play for the
championship at noon at John D. Morgan Park in Campbell.
A remarkable two-year run continues for the Morgan Hill Pony Baseball Pony 13-year-old all-stars.
Already section champs this year after making it to within just a few wins of the Bronco World Series last season, the Morgan Hill Pony 13s have rolled through the Regional Tournament and are one win away from claiming the regional title.
On Saturday, the MH Pony 13s play for the championship at noon at John D. Morgan Park in Campbell.
The Pony 13s squad advanced to the regional finale by winning three straight games, including a 12-2 win over Diablo Valley in its opener last weekend, a 10-2 victory over Bal Passi of Modesto on Sunday, and a 6-4 win over section rival Santa Clara on Wednesday.
The local all-stars are trying for a return trip to the West Zone Tournament, which will be held in Fullerton, and possibly a berth in the World Series at Chino Hills.
Meanwhile, in other all-star action:
n The Bronco North Regional Tournament will be held at Morgan Hill’s Britton Middle School starting Saturday. The Morgan Hill Bronco A all-star team earned an automatic berth into the tourney.
n MH’s Pinto A and Pinto Gold all-star teams also competed in the regionals in Rodeo this week. The A squad won its opener 3-2 over Loomis behind a combined one-hitter from four pitchers, while the Gold squad dropped its game against Livermore 15-3.
n In Mustang sectional tourney play, the MH Mustang A squad was scheduled to play in the loser’s bracket finale on Friday night at Britton. The local all-star team was looking for another shot at rival Blossom Valley No. 1, which it lost to 5-3 in the winner’s bracket on Wednesday. MH, which would have secured a spot in the regionals with a win on Friday night, would have to beat BV No. 1 twice to win the sectional title.
n Also in the Mustang sectionals, in San Jose, the MH Mustang Gold squad was also scheduled to play in the loser’s bracket finale, against San Jose Pacific on Friday night. A win would have won the local all-stars a berth in the regional tourney and the right to play Los Altos-Mountain View for the section title. The local Gold squad would have to win twice to claim the championship. after dropping a 16-5 decision to LA-MV in the first game between the two teams.
n Finally, in Bronco sectional tourney play, the MH Gray all-star won a pair of games at El Camino Field in Santa Clara before being eliminated After losing its opener to the ultimate tournament winner, Los Altos A, the Gray’s regrouped and won 6-2 on Saturday against Blossom Valley No. 3 behind the pitching of Matt Byrne and Ryan Mason, then beat Fremont 12-10 on Saturday before falling out of the tourney on Monday in an 11-1 loss to Blossom Valley A.
