Two Morgan Hill boys, Anthony Bradley and Brett Johnson, were pivotal in helping the San Jose Junior Sharks Bantam B ice hockey team win the Northern California Championship last weekend.

And, the team will play for the state title at Logitech Ice Center today.

The NorCal tournament consisted of a three-game round-robin format and a championship game. In the first game, against the top-seeded Santa Clara Blackhawks, Johnson scored two goals and an assist and Bradley had two goals to lead the Junior Sharks to a 5-0 victory.

In the second game against the Vacaville Northstars, the team struggled to find its groove and, despite many comebacks, lost 6-4.

In the third game of the tournament, the Junior Sharks again were having difficulty in all areas and only a tremendous goal from Bradley in the third period helped the team advance to the final.

In the championship game, a rematch against the Northstars, the Junior Sharks were hitting on all cylinders. With Bradley leading the team with two more goals and Johnson providing stellar defense, the Junior Sharks won the game 9-1 to become Northern California champions.

The team’s overall record was 35-13-8 this season, including 14-2-4 in league. The Junior Sharks’ league consists of teams from Roseville to Lake Tahoe to San Jose. Their overall tournament record was 11-4-2, including tourney titles in the Roseville Thanksgiving Tournament and the Junior Sharks Winter Classic. The tournament schedule also had the team traveling to Detroit, Mi. and Phoenix, Az.

Bradley led the team in goals and assists for the season, and Johnson, while playing both forward and defense, did his part to help in scoring this year, including a three-goal hat trick in the final regular season game.
