MH 19, SJ Pacific 7
Morgan Hill started the tournament Friday evening with a 19-7 win over San Jose Pacific. The team opened the game with a seven-run first inning. Brett Fuller and Tim Giles led the solid performance at the plate with four hits each.
Wallace and Kolby Rousseu had three hits apiece, and Colby Nelson and Christian Turnlund had two singles each. Kolby Rousseu was the RBI leader with five, and Travis Saenz had three. Pitchers Tim Giles and Kevin O’Rourke both turned in solid performances and shut down San Jose Pacific.
MH 21, SJ PAL 2
The Saturday game was an even more unbalanced against the San Jose PAL host team.
The A’s scored 14 straight runs in the first inning before PAL got its first out.
Rousseu rocked the inning with a home run and a double for four RBIs in his two at bats. Kyle Dunne capped off the slug fest in the next inning with a two-RBI triple to left field, driving home O’Rourke and Ricky Clift, who both got on base with straight shots up center. Pitchers Andy Muller and Aaron Wallace dominated the first innings with six strikeouts, three hits, one walk and two earned runs. Closer Nelson finished the game with nine straight strikes to retire San Jose.
MH 13, SC All-Stars 3
On Sunday, the Santa Clara All-Stars started off with a 1-0 lead. The A’s responded with a seven-run rally that saw RBIs from Travis Saenz, Christian Turnlund and Giles. Brett Fuller started the game with a solid two-hit performance.
Reliever O’Rourke then held Santa Clara to one hit over the final innings. Franky Palmer bashed out a two-RBI single in the fifth and then Patrick Tuttle sealed Santa Clara’s fate with an RBI single.
MH 12, SJ Pacific 2
In the Monday championship game, Morgan Hill again faced San Jose Pacific. Although San Jose started with a run in the top of the first inning, Morgan Hill followed up with five runs in the bottom off hits from Turnlund, Giles, Saenz and sacrifice flies from Fuller and Rousseu.
Wallace scored three runs with solid base running. Fuller and O’Rourke combined at the mound for three hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. Giles closed the game with an RBI single to center to trigger the 10-run rule for the second game in a row.
