Police arrested David Pena, Jr., 22, responding to a tip from a witness who recognized the suspect from his picture on the Times’ “Most Wanted” page.

About 1:45 p.m. March 19, officers responded to the San Martin home where the anonymous caller said Pena could be found, according to Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer. Police found Pena asleep in a bedroom. Wanted on warrants for battery and a parole hold, he was arrested at the house on the 12000 block of Hager Court. The home was not his listed address.

Also arrested was Amanda Dellamaggiore, 20, who lives at the house, Neumayer said. She gave officers consent to enter the home, and while talking to her they found what appeared to be a pipe that might have been used for smoking drugs, plus two plastic bags containing what appeared to be methamphetamine. The items were found in her purse.

Dellamaggiore was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs and being under the influence of drugs.

Furthermore, while officers were arresting Pena, they found another plastic bag containing what they thought was more methamphetamine in his clothing, Neumayer said.

Pena was booked for the existing warrants, as well as on suspicion of possession of drugs and being under the influence.

The arrest was facilitated by the publication of Pena’s mug shot in the Times, as the anonymous witness who reported his whereabouts told police he or she recognized him from his image in the newspaper, Neumayer said.

“This is what the police need, is the assistance of our community to find wanted criminals and solve crimes,” Neumayer said.
