Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) named Morgan Hill resident Mark Keys he maintenance employee of the year for 2004.
Keys, who works in the Cerone Division as an overhaul and repair foreman, has been employed by VTA for 26 years.
He was nominated for exceptional mechanical ski-lls and knowledge that serves him well in his day-to-day coordination of repair tasks.
It come as no surprise that his knack for mechanics flow over into his personal interests as well, coworkers said.
Keys, a Morgan Hill resident for 21 years, loves spending time with his wife, son and daughter.
When asked what he likes to do outside of work, he enthusiastically declar-ed, “street car fabrication.” He makes street rods in his backyard alongside his son who works on muscle cars.
“I’m currently working on four cars now but there are eight total that I have to get my hands on,” Keys said.
The outcome of his handy work ends up on display at local car shows and throughout the Bay Area.
“I appreciate this honor because it comes from my peers. I feel like it is a reflection on everyone I work with,” he said. “They have earned this just as much as I have.”
