Mustang All-Stars to play in an elimination game Saturday in
their host sectional at Britton Middle School
MORGAN HILL — The Morgan Hill Mustang Gold All-Stars ran short on rally magic Thursday as they fell 14-8 to the No. 3 team from Blossom Valley.
Morgan Hill fell into the loser’s bracket of their host sectional tournament and next will play an elimination game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Britton Middle School.
“We struggled a little bit this time with pitching,” Gold manager Joey Mitchell said. “Their kids were just hitting the ball and getting kids on base. We made some adjustments, but they just kept hitting it.”
The Morgan Hill All-Stars were coming off a thrilling first-round victory in which they scored seven runs in the final inning to beat Fremont 12-11.
They mustered some more late heroics Thursday, getting a two-run home run by Jordan Cardenas and some big hits from Andrew Mendoza, Eric Clymer and Dalton Habina.
Gold led 4-1 after the first inning, but their visitors were just warming up.
“Our guys looked a little tired afterward,” Mitchell said. “I think that game might give them drive and desire to come out as a different team Saturday. They know what to expect now, the level of play in this tournament.”
