Garbage and recycling pickup monthly rates for Morgan Hill’s residents and businesses are expected to rise slightly as of July 1, according to Recology South Valley General Manager Phil Couchee.
The Morgan Hill City Council, which has an exclusive contract with Recology for solid waste disposal inside the city limits, unanimously approved the 2.55 percent rate increase at last Wednesday’s regular meeting.
For “basic residential” customers in Morgan Hill, the monthly pickup rate will rise from $25.97 to $26.63, or $.66 per month, according to a City staff report.
Other customers, including hillside, low-income, and businesses will see their rates go up by the same percentage, according to City staff.
The rate increase is allowed each year in the City’s contract with Recology, and is based on changes in the Consumer Price Index, according to City staff.
In recent years, the annual permitted rate increase has ranged from less than 1 percent to just over 2 percent, Couchee said.
The rate increase will take effect July 1, Couchee said.
